Once again the yellow and blacks from Rotherham excel themselves and I hope everyone is proud of their own as well as their team's performance on an unusual rainy day for what was the 17^th running of the Barnsley Boundary Relay. It was a real credit to the club that we managed to turn out 3 very strong teams in two different categories. The first, of what we hope to be a bi annual event, interclub challenge took place on a beautiful sunny morning on the “racing home” of Kimberworth Striders. An excellent turnout with thirty three runners making the short journey over from Barnsley and with the Striders matching them like for like ensured that all everyone contributed to the overall event.

The first leg runners set off at a blistering pace and first home was Shaun Dimelow in the fastest time if the day at 11:48. A cracking run from Kevin Doyle saw him take 2nd with Dan Birkinshaw in 3rd. The all female 2nd leg saw a Kimberworth one two with Claire Spencer and Helen Wade storming to a fast finish just ahead of Linda Walton. The third leg saw another set of fast times and first home Was Paul “where’s the finish line” Fordham quickly followed Liam Rooney and Lee Smith. Two junior took part and both had excellent runs with Lucy Clough and Billy Chapman recording times of 18:18 and 22:10 respectively.

The three fastest individual teams go to:

1st – Shaun Dimelow, Linda Walton and Steve Whitley – 40:02

2nd – Kevin Doyle, Carla Foster and Phil Martin – 40:53

3rd – John MacDermott, Claire Spencer and Liam Rooney – 41:18

Home turf proved to be an advantage as the overall club award was taken by the team from Kimberworth with an overall time of 8 hours 52 minutes against a time of 9 hours 20 minutes from the Harriers Many thanks to all the helpers on the day, the “critical time keepers, marshalls, course marker outers, official photographers, supporters, tent erectors and the poor chap who had to write out all the race numbers by hand
