A recent addition to the Striders race calendar to celebrate the memory of former Strider (and Rotherham Harrier) Stan Bagshaw, who sadly passed away in 2009.  The predominantly off-road, undulating race, starts and finishes at Elsecar Heritage Centre taking in the surrounding woods and fields of Wentworth that were so loved by Stan.  The 1 lap, approx. 4 mile route, has altered slightly from the first running of the race in 2010 but still involves a challenging climb from Kings Wood up towards Needle's Eye in Wentworth with an eventual lengthy descent through fields back into Elsecar to round things off.

It's not so much a race as a get together to remember Stan who was still pulling on the Striders vest to compete well into his 70's.  As an acknowledgement to Stan, every runner receives a bag of toffees at the finish - for those that remember, Stan always had a toffee available to offer a flagging runner come the finish line of a race.

The Santa's Special is a staple race on the Striders calendar.  The 4.5mile, 2 lap route, like the Kimmy Kanter, starts and finishes next to  Millmoor Juniors training ground and is predominantly run on trails through the surrounding woodland.  Be warned though, it's not a flat course and as the race is run in early December, it's normally abit nippy and the trails are rarely dry!

The race is normally held on the second Sunday morning of December, with the prize giving and refreshments available afterwards in the Travellers pub.

Further details on the clubs Facebook page.

As with the Kimmy Kanter and the Canal Race, the Santa's Special race forms part of the 'KMR' series held in conjunction with Maltby Running Club and Rotherham Harriers.

The 'Kimmy Kanter' has been held by the club every year since 1985.  It used to take place on the roads, starting from the Travellers pub but now is firmly off road!  Normally taking place in early June on a Tuesday evening, it's a two lap trail race of approximately 3.8 miles in it's current form with the route starting and finishing at Millmoor Juniors training ground.  Each lap takes in the surrounding woodland (and hills) of Kimberworth.

The prize giving is held, after the race, in the Travellers pub in Kimberworth, accompanied by cake and sandwiches.

The Kimmy Kanter forms part of the 'KMR' 12 race series, held yearly in conjunction with Maltby Running Club and Rotherham Harriers.

This years race details can be found on the clubs Facebook page

Approx route details are below, but this is subject to change due to tipping work on the adjacent fields:

The Canal Race has been held since 1998 and is an out and back route following the canal out towards Meadowhall with the turnaround point just after the HalfPenny Bridge, Tinsley, before heading back to Rotherham and the finish line.

The 5 mile route was, for the most part until 2012, all firm trail and took in a circuit of Blackburn nature reserve but with tarmac being laid along the canal towpath from Rotherham to Meadowhall in early 2013, it effectively became a 'road race'.

Ongoing renovations to Rotherham's flood defences since 2019 have meant that 2 laps of the nature reserve have now been re-incorporated into the route - one at the start and one at the finish.

As with the Kimmy Kanter, the Canal Race forms part of the 'KMR' series held in conjunction with Maltby Running Club and Rotherham Harriers.

This years race details can be found on the clubs Facebook page nearer the traditional race date of first week of November.

2023

The Kimmy Killer race was planned to be a one off event back in February 2012 but it's now been held on four occasions, suspiciously in sync with Olympic years.  The 10K (6.21 mile) route is a mixture of road and trail, starting and finishing alongside Winterhill School on Little Common Lane, Kimberworth.  It consists of 3 lapped climbs up the infamous West Hill in Kimberworth - circa 1,000 feet of climb in total - meaning it certainly isn't a PB course!

As of 2024, we have four runners who have completed all four races held - Kevin Doyle, Steve Lowndes, Pat Rooney and Jo Rooney.  Rumour has it that the next race is only scheduled once Pat has recovered......

All proceeds from the race go to that years chosen charity.  For 2024, it was Dementia Concern and we are delighted to say a total of £1,123.55 was raised for this wonderful cause.

2012    2016    2019    2024

*2016 also included a 5K race requiring only 1 climb of West Hill!

*2024 had to be re-routed straight down and back up West Hill (x3!) due to a police incident.  This resulted in the course being just over 5 miles in length on that occasion.
